Chemical Engineering - Chemistry Of Chemicals

If you were wondering how to apply the principle of conservation of mass or conservation of energy or conservation of momentum that you learnt in your physics and chemistry classes, we are glad to give you the answer, – Chemical Engineering.
As a chemical engineer you would learn to make that oh-so-desired perfume, manufacturing of soaps, chemical constituents of shampoo, mixture in detergents along with organic and inorganic industrial chemicals.

If physics and chemistry have been your interest in the past, may be a course in chemical engineer will interest you more in future.

Would this career suit me ??

Chemical Engineering requires practical application of science but also requires following attributes in individual. They are:

  • Sharp, analytical and practical mind
  • Give attention to details
  • Good at organizing and solving problems
  • Natural curiosity
  • Ability to work in teams as well as alone
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to keep calm under work pressures
  • Ability to make critical observations and appropriate decisions

Where will I work ??

The employment opportunities are immense for a graduate in chemical engineering. They can fid jobs in:

  • Devising and maintaining manufacturing processes of various kinds
  • Work in labs & factories
  • In govt. bodies ex:water boards to device methods for treatment of water
  • In storage facilities of materials
  • In fields like Biochem, Biotech, Nanotech, Biomedical and Biomolecular studies
  • One can also go in for research and take up teaching

Duration of the course is..

How do I pursue this career ?

How do I pursue this career ??

» To get an entry-level engineering job, one usually needs a bachelor's degree in engineering. The career chronology to be a chemical engineer is :

» The minimum eligibility required to get admission in Bachelors  is 10+2 with good marks.

» The course requirements in 10+2 are Physics, Chemistry and Math.

»    The 10+2 mark cutoffs for admissions are different for different institutes. Ex: BITS-Pilani ( min 80%) IIT ( 60%)

»  Opportunities lies in going further for higher studies for Masters and Ph.D

»  At the Masters level, one can opt for specialized subjects like Biochem, Electrochem, Food Process, Mineral Process, Nanotechnology, etc.

»  To take admissions in premier national institutes competitive exams are held every year BITSAT, IIT-JEE , AIEEE

»  State wide entrance exams are also held ex" EAMCET for admission to regional colleges.
