Share on Facebook BITSAT aspirants have been bombarding us with emails regarding what the cut off marks should be for them to get into their desirable course at their favourite branch. So we decided to oblige all fellow MCGians with this write up on trends regarding BITSAT cut of scores in the past 2 years. It’s fair enough to say that BITSAT is becoming one of the most competitive exams in the country close behind IITJEE and AIEEE. This year around 1,50,000 students took the exam to get one of only 2000 available seats available . Every year cut offs are decided according to the performance of the students in that year. Here’s some previous year’s cut-off for BITSAT which would help derive some analysis though each year trend could be mutually exclusive. | | Degree programme at Pilani Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2009 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 314 | | B.E.(Hons.): Civil | 312 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 341 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 328 | | B.E.(Hons.): Manufacturing | 305 | | B.Pharm.(Hons.) | 257 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 343 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Instrumentation | 332 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 279 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 289 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 298 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 293 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 296 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Finance | 274 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 283 | | | Degree programme at Goa Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2009 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 283 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 306 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 292 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 306 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Instrumentation | 292 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 266 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 272 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 278 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 273 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 280 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 267 | | | Degree programme at Hyderabad Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2009 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 281 | | B.E.(Hons.): Civil | 285 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 295 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 290 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 296 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Communication | 311 | | B.Pharm.(Hons.) | 255 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 266 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 269 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 272 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 270 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 274 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 267 | | | Degree programme at Pilani Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2008 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 309 | | B.E.(Hons.): Civil | 304 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 339 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 324 | | B.Pharm.(Hons.) | 241 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 349 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Instrumentation | 331 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 263 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 282 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 289 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 287 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 288 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): General Studies | 302 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Engineering Technology | 283 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Finance | 276 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 287 | | | Degree programme at Goa Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2008 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 281 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 304 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 290 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 313 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Instrumentation | 295 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 248 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 265 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 271 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 270 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 272 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 272 | | | Degree programme at Hyderabad Campus | Cut-off BITSAT-2008 | | B.E.(Hons.): Chemical | 280 | | B.E.(Hons.): Civil | 285 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electrical & Electronics | 299 | | B.E.(Hons.): Mechanical | 291 | | B.E.(Hons.): Computer Science | 306 | | B.E.(Hons.): Electronics & Instrumentation | 306 | | B.Pharm.(Hons.) | 230 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences | 248 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Chemistry | 264 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Economics | 266 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Mathematics | 268 | | M.Sc.(Hons.): Physics | 267 | | M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems | 272 | | However based on the trends it is safe to say that every year the top 2% that do get admitted to BITS score more than 230 marks in the exam, with the engineering courses needing an average aspirant to secure at least 280 marks. However those aspiring to get into the Pilani campus must secure at least 300 marks. The marks must be especially high for the cream courses such as computer science and electronics and communications engineering. The former requires a score of 340 to 350 for Pilani Campus and between 320 to 340 for Goa campus and 300+ for Hyderabad Campus. The latter requires a score of 300+ for Hyderabad and Goa campuses and 330+ for Pilani campus. The non engineering courses are fairly easier to get into with Msc General Studies and Msc Physics (depending on campus) being the cream of the lot, requiring close to 290 marks. To all BITSAT aspirants Mera Career Guide wish you all the best and a happy counselling session. May you get the course that best suits your interests !! |

Admin: The Author of the post is Saurabh Sinha, a student from BITS-Pilani,Pilani Campus pursuing Mechanical Engineering. His BITSAT score was 329 and he shares his success mantra with aspiring students.
India’s first ever online test BITSAT which is supposedly tough can be achieved with proper guidance. You may think that now that I am here it’s easy for me to say this. But let me tell you a year ago I was at the same place where you are. I, with the help of right guidance, am there where you want to be.
BITSAT is considered tough but the questions are nothing beyond your syllabus. It becomes tough because it’s a very high scoring competition and to be in the competition you can’t waste even a single minute out of those 3 hrs that you are given to crack the test.
After you are done with your preparation for boards the only hurdle left for you is attaining the required amount of speed which can be achieved with enough practice. It can be achieved by using MCQ books (i personally prefer AIEEE explorer) from the market and solve 2 sets of paper daily with a target speed of 50 questions/hour with accuracy .That will help you develop your own strategy during exam and once you do it for 15 days ,I don’t think you will have any problem in qualifying in BITSAT.
Action Summary
-
Stick to BITSAT syllabus
- Use practice books
- Give importance to time management
Good Luck!

Admin: The author of the post is Gridhar Prasanna , a computer science student from BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. His BITSAT score was 301. In this post Gridhar shares some tips to help crack BITSAT.
I happened to be lucky to score 301 when I wrote BITSAT in year 2008. But it was not only sheer luck but lots of hard work and discipline which helped me get 301 score and gave me a chance to purusue my dream degree of computer science at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus.
Here are a few things which I would like to share with you all. Firstly,I would request all the BITS aspirants to strictly stick to the syllabus and not try any weird things like practising very tough/high level questions.
The test is not designed to crack you; it is the other way round. As far as proper preparation is concerned, you may just go through the NCERT books of all three-PCM properly,as some of the questions in BITSAT are picked up directly from here. In my opinion, if you stick to the syllabus, you surely can make it.
However let me remind you once again that the exam is not uber-tuff, neither is it easy. It adopts a middle route. And also those of you who have taken any sort of coaching for IIT-JEE would find it a bit easy but still the basic rule should be - stick to the core syllabus, study and understand everything given in your school textbooks. That all,and you are in.

Apart from being the first online admission test BITSAT boast of having a well balanced test covering the regular PCM section and at the same time giving due weightage to English Proficiency (15 Questions) and (b) Logical Reasoning (10 Questions).
Thereby it’s of great importance to prepare seriously for these 16.67% of the test component. With my experience of BITSAT 2008 (score=322) I list down few suggestion for this section. I am sure these suggestions would help you get into your dream college BITS-Pilani.
Pick up any good book and stick to it. I prerpared using BITSAT explorer textbook and my friend shares same experience for Arihant’s BITSAT book as well. So, you can go for either.
Recommendations for preparing for BITSAT english and reasoning:
-
Do practice all the reasoning and English proficiency questions religiously.
- Once you are thorough with your PCM section ,start taking mock tests . But don’t jump to taking mock test before completing your revision of all the sections.
- Despite of portion being small for English and resoning which could be covered in a week, but I would recommend you splitting it in phases.
- Takeup 20 questions for english and 20 reasoning in a week. Start doing this atleast 30 days before your BITSAT.
I wish all the aspirants of BITSAT very good luck for all endeavors ! may god bless you . amen!!

Remember BITSAT is a computer based test, all test questions shall be answered with the click of a mouse. No matter if you are not computer savvy; the test is so easy on computers that you will enjoy doing it. But scoring good in the test depends upon your preparation and finally would take you to your dream college.
- For PCM section I suggest previous year IITJEE objective problems should be on tip.Expect some 10-15 previous year JEE questions in this section.
- You must have good exposure to varieties of objective questions in all the three subjects viz. physics, chemistry, mathematics.
- Start by revising your 11th and 12th standard NCERT syllabus for mathematics, physics and chemistry.
- Be thorough with basic concepts and formulaes.
- You are not allowed to use a calculator for solving mathematical questions. It is, thus, important to brush up on your calculation skills.
- Don’t rush into taking mock BITSAT’s. You should cover the entire syllabus once and practice from reference books at least 2-3 times before attempting the preparation test for BITSAT.
- Study from a good quality study material for the reasoning section of BITSAT. Try to devote a specific amount of time to the preparation of this section daily, as you might not have studied reasoning in your 11th or 12th standard.
- At the time of the exam, start with the section you are most confident about.
- As there is a negative marking, try to avoid wild guessing. However, a calculated guess will not do too much harm. Remove the option which is least likely to be correct. Guessing from 3 options would obviously reduce the risk factor a great deal.
- Time management can help you succeed in BITSAT. Allocate a specific time to every section and try to complete the section within that time frame.
- Don’t get stuck at one question. If you are getting confused and are unable to find the right answer, skip the question.
- If you finish early you will have time to attempt the 12 extra questions, which will help increase your mark. However, you will be given the extras only if you answer every question in the paper, so take care to do that.
