About the Author:-

Neha: - I am an ardent writer who believes words are the most wonderful medium to express thoBeing part of corporate world for quite a while, I love to share my insights with fellow people /aspiring professionals.

We all often face the dilemma of choosing the right stream once we are all set to move out of school. In the age of growing competition we are burdened by the raised expectations and overtly heightened standards of performances by our peers. Somewhere in the race to reach the top, we lose the sight of our actual goal, the goal to exercise our talent in the direction that gives us utmost satisfaction and success which is imperative in terms of fulfillment not just monetary gain.  You and I are just an iota of the huge populace of youngsters who jostle between the myriad options we see in front of us. Often we tend to choose a profession in which our elder brothers or sisters have achieved success. If you have an elder brother who is doing immensely well as a .Net Architect you would instantly begin to equate success with the profession.

But hold on, do you actually have the mindset, skill set and most importantly a liking for the same.  Without having an innate inclination towards anything you should never attempt to make it your full time bread winning chore.  Why? Because whenever we try to do anything which we do not like, it turns into a boring mechanical process which ends up making us feel reckless in the long run.  The idea is simple. Before you go ahead and make that biggest decision of your life, weigh your options very wisely.  There is multiplicity of alternatives with opportunities galore for you to choose from. Remember: Being Engineer or a Doctor is not the only thing that makes you famous.

In case you have artistic inclinations, then nothing better than a Fine Arts degree. It can give you lots of money, fame and also feed the hunger for creativity in you.  A person with excellent written communication skills should not waste his innovations in writing the code and user interface messages. Explore the varied dimensions of writing in the present world. From being print journalist to part time web content author, a writer can explore a world of endless opportunities.

Animation is another arena where you have the huge platform to exhibit your skills and creativity. There are number of animation institutes and media schools where this art is taught. You can master it by innovating new things.

If you think you have the power to plan and add spice to various functions then get to the exciting world of event management and function planning. Here you just need to have the ability to organize things and manifest the wonderful ideas which you have.

These are just few options which you can think over in case you want to look beyond the stereotypical traits of successful professional.  When it comes to being successful remember you need to make your choices well and get into something that interests you. Try to have a career for yourself and not just to impress the world around.  The world praises one who does best, no matter what he does.

It’s always better to be best in your niche area rather than being a nonexistent entity in the wide industry.

They say..."Ignorance is bliss"!!!
Come third year end, and every college student is all geared up to get that one thing done, for which the whole undergraduate course is mugged up!!! Well, you might have guesses it right, but for those who haven't.........its PLACEMENT time!!!
When it comes to getting a job, everyone wants to know everything about everything. We couldn't possibly give you that 'everything', but we don't want you to have "nothing". Hence, this is a sincere effort on our part to give you that inside story, that "something", or even "something" for that matter, you might end up having "nothing",which is definitely not happening! They say....."Ignorance is Bliss"!
We say....."Naaaaaah"!

DELOITTE INDIA :
This was the only company which had a case study round and an aptitude based written round, where the questions are not very difficult. This was followed by a technical interview round where good knowledge of thefield is essential. It wasn't difficult if one was well versed with all the basic concepts. Knowledge of 'how a case study is to be handled' will help you a lot!.

ESSAR STEEL :
Basic concepts and knowledge are tested in the written round. It is essential to remain calm and keep track of the time during the test. The interview had in-depth questioning from any two favourite subjects of the students. Confidence is the key to both GD and the interview. Also, importance is given to the projects and trainings.

  NTPC Ltd :
The branches allowed are Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronica and Communication. The interview starts with HR related questions, such as how one would be able to adjust with the harsh conditions on-site and how much dedication  could the candidate show towards the organization in the long run considering that there will be greater temptations to join the private sector. The technical aspect  of the interview comprises of conceptual questions. For example, for civil, questions from structures and Soil mechanics are asked. These includes drawing and bending moment and shear force diagrams of comlicated beams, finding the slope and deflection of members, designing of compression members in steel etc.

HALLIBURTON :
The procedure includes three stages : first, a written round, followed by a GD and finally the interview. The written round is one of a kind. The technical questions were tough but the aptitude based ones were easier.

This ensured that the students are proficient in both technical and aptitude skills. The mechanical paper consists of questions on automobiles, IC engines, manufacturing processes, fluid mechanics, refrigeration etc. The basicengineering paper concentrated on mechanics and basic physics. The interview process was a mix of both HR and technical skills. Concepts related to engines, thermodynamics and basic physics are stressed on. There is astrong emphasis on the academic record and projects done. Having a good pointer will certainly help you.
