Share on FacebookThey say..."Ignorance is bliss"!!! Come third year end, and every college student is all geared up to get that one thing done, for which the whole undergraduate course is mugged up!!! Well, you might have guesses it right, but for those who haven't.........its PLACEMENT time!!! When it comes to getting a job, everyone wants to know everything about everything. We couldn't possibly give you that 'everything', but we don't want you to have "nothing". Hence, this is a sincere effort on our part to give you that inside story, that "something", or even "something" for that matter, you might end up having "nothing",which is definitely not happening! They say....."Ignorance is Bliss"! We say....."Naaaaaah"!
DELOITTE INDIA : This was the only company which had a case study round and an aptitude based written round, where the questions are not very difficult. This was followed by a technical interview round where good knowledge of thefield is essential. It wasn't difficult if one was well versed with all the basic concepts. Knowledge of 'how a case study is to be handled' will help you a lot!.
ESSAR STEEL : Basic concepts and knowledge are tested in the written round. It is essential to remain calm and keep track of the time during the test. The interview had in-depth questioning from any two favourite subjects of the students. Confidence is the key to both GD and the interview. Also, importance is given to the projects and trainings.
NTPC Ltd :
The branches allowed are Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronica and Communication. The interview starts with HR related questions, such as how one would be able to adjust with the harsh conditions on-site and how much dedication could the candidate show towards the organization in the long run considering that there will be greater temptations to join the private sector. The technical aspect of the interview comprises of conceptual questions. For example, for civil, questions from structures and Soil mechanics are asked. These includes drawing and bending moment and shear force diagrams of comlicated beams, finding the slope and deflection of members, designing of compression members in steel etc. Thus, placement is NTPC demands good rank in class, generally within top 5 and good technical knowledge.
RELIANCE ENERGY :
Their main aim is to check the technical knowledge. HR related questions are not asked. The first round is a written technical round for testing the basic concepts, followed by a interview round which again is purely technical. One unique thing about this company is that, unlike other companies, the GD round is conducted after the interview. A strong technical background is the sole necessity for this company.
HALLIBURTON : The procedure includes three stages : first, a written round, followed by a GD and finally the interview. The written round is one of a kind. The technical questions were tough but the aptitude based ones were easier.
ASHOK LEYLAND : The written section consists of three different papers concentrating on the naunces of Mechanical Engineering, basic engineering concepts and aptitude skills. This ensured that the students are proficient in both technical and aptitude skills. The mechanical paper consists of questions on automobiles, IC engines, manufacturing processes, fluid mechanics, refrigeration etc. The basicengineering paper concentrated on mechanics and basic physics. The interview process was a mix of both HR and technical skills. Concepts related to engines, thermodynamics and basic physics are stressed on. There is astrong emphasis on the academic record and projects done. Having a good pointer will certainly help you.
L&T (HED) : This company looks for really good technical knowledge. The HR related questions are easy to handle. A good command over the basics and a thorough understandingof the training undergone is the sole criteria for selection.
BPCL : The candidates are short-listed on the basis of their CGPA. The selection process after this is cariied out in two phases - a GD, followed by an interview. The GD check's one's communication skills and the interview is purely technical. A strong grasp over the subject and confidence during the interview will certainly help you.
Mahindra and Mahindra : The selection process starts with an objective test (with an Auto-Passion section too) followed by a GD and an interview. Knowledge about the current developments in the Indian automobile industry was tested. IC Engines and Automobile engineering were the main topics of focus. One is expected to be completely thorough with all his projects and trainings.
Accenture India Ltd. : First, a written test is conducted which has 55 questions comprising quant, verbal ability, reasoning etc. The GD round tests, one'scommunication and leadership skills. This is followed by two interview rounds, first being technical and other being HR related. For IT/CS, technical questions related to C/C++ are asked, while for the non IT branches, focus is mainly upon the projects and the summer training. Basic technical knowledge is a must.

MARUTI SUZUKI INDIA Ltd. : The selection procedure starts witha written test where subject knowledge regarding IC engines, Manufacturing processes and Automobile engineering are tested. then, on the basis of this, students are shortlisted for the interview which is purely technical. knowledge level in all subjects are tested. Good pointers gives definite edge in the interview. There are questions based on Industrial training and Minor projects as well.
DRDO : Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their CGPA and only an in-depth technical interview was conducted. The interview panel consists of 5 technical experts including the HOD of the Mechanical department. The emphasis is on both the minor and major projects and software knowledge (if any). Questions are mainly from Fluid Mechanics. A good command over the subject is essential. The results are declared after six months.
APPLIED MATERIALS : Basic concepts of Electrical and MechanicalEngineering are tsted on. The preferance is given to practical application rather than theoritical concepts.
MICROSOFT : It consists of a written test in which, one question, each on craetivity, testing, data structures, debugging & sorting are asked. Interview is conducted which consists of questions on coding and testing. They mainly check the stability of the program made and wheather it tackles all kinds of contigencies and had an optimised time complexity.
SAMSUNG : The written round is purely aptitude based with no technical aspect. This round is followed by two rounds of interview, first being the technical one followed by the HR interviews. The technical interview mainly checks the basic concepts and the candidate's analytical ability whereas the HR interview is a general interaction to know more about the candidate.
MU-Sigma : The selection process cmprises fo three rounds. The first round is a written aptitute test. After this, GD is conducted, which is followed by the interview. The interviewers are mainly intersted in checking the analytical abilities of thecandidates, which they do by asking riddles and puzzles. These are not so easy and the interviewers demand loud thinking so that they could just the approach of the students. As the questions are very tough, the answers did not matter as much as the approach used does.

Share on Facebook It’s IIT-JEE after CAT Fiasco | | Last Year CAT 2009 was in news for all the wrong reasons and then a debate began how India cannot embrace technology in it’s education policy. Many called CAT 2009 as a disaster and unfair and asked for retake of exam in pen and paper mode. But here again, one of the biggest exam IIT-JEE 2010 witnessed goof up in it’s pen and paper avatar leaving students bewildered. On April 11, 2010 IIT-JEE exam was conducted all over India. In the question paper the order of subjects on the question paper didn’t match the sequence on the answer sheet. As per sources, while the question paper had the first 28 questions from physics, followed by an equal number of questions from chemistry and mathematics, the ORS sheet (objective response sheet) had a different sequence of subjects. | | "In my center, the invigilator first asked us to mark the answer according to the headings on the ORS sheet. But after an hour, the official communications from the IITs was read out, which was contrary to what the supervisor had instructed," said Siddant Deshpande, who took the exam in Navi Mumbai. In one of the 10 codes of the Hindi version of paper 1, a question was not printed. But according to JEE Madras, steps would be taken to make sure that the candidates's score does not suffer. Few students are calling this goof up as testing presence of mind and few are calling it a blunder. For sure JEE management would take care that students don’t suffer for printing mistakes. | Source : TOI |

Today I got a call from my friend in USA enjoying his onsite vacation, he frantically told" Did you hear Obama's speech ? Do you think their will be an impact on India ? "
I wondered why someone so dynamic like Prez Obama is bothering over we so called pseudo intellectual Software Engineers of India who are only famous for labor works and no real innovations ! |
I moved to You Tube to look for speech clipping, here's excerpt from the latest anti outsourcing speech:
The problems have grown worse," Obama said. "Meanwhile, India is not waiting to revamp its economy. China is not waiting, These nations - they're not standing still. These nations aren't playing for second place. They are putting more emphasis on math and science. They're rebuilding their infrastructure. They're making serious investments in clean energy because they want those jobs."
Indian IT Industy which was in the process of recovering from the global recession. may get a setback from Obama's anti-outsourcing policy. Because India gets more than 60 per cent, or $70 billion, outsourcing work from the US because of low-cost locations. Obama took these decision beacuse thier unemployment rate reached in double figure. US Senate has allready voted for imposing strict conditions on hiring of people with people with H-1B visas by American companies receiving federal bailout money.
An embattled US President Obama, bruised by economic, political, and foreign policy crises in his first year in office, has pledged to stop US cos from taking jobs overseas and warned Americans about increasing competition from India. Obama addressed the issue of loss of jobs to foreign markets mainly India.
My Take on this:
I am no expert or critic but spending several years in stock market and watching rise and dip of market so closely ( which is my passion) I think I can use this platform to make a point.
Obama has several short-and long term pressure to cope with, but that doesnot mean that there will be any significant impact for the outsourcing Industry. The Proposed "Jobs Bill", which is aimed at creating more local employment in USA.
However there are short-sighted that many USA companies derive significant reveues from outside the country mainly from India. Some of the top outsourcing companies are Citigroup, GE, JP Morgan. These companies will create more jobs in India because of low cost operations. Citigroup generates 52% of its revenues outside the USA. Obama will only reduce tax soap to companies who will ship job to others places. But there are many others factors why USA MNC's prefare India to expand their business. When ever any companies is investing in India they sees the overall economics of the opportunity, market potential, availability skilled and preferably lower-cost workforce and the ability of time zone difference. So, Tax is only one of the several factors.
There are two Factors which will be faced by USA.
First, the changes to the US expense allocation rules may actually prompt some businesses to consider shifting certain US overhead costs overseas in order to prevent those expenses from being deferred on their US tax returns.
Second, just when US businesses need to find additional growth opportunities elsewhere to lower their reliance on a fatigued US customer, these rules will increase the cost of doing business overseas.
Clearly, this will make US firms less nimble against competitors based in countries with more favourable tax regimes.
So, Overall there will be very less effect of Obama's Policy on Anti-Outsourcing.
Let's hope the same!
