First thing is to appear for engineering exam . What branch and college all are secondary thing. because if you don't go by donation method and you want to good colleges irrespective of region then you need to score in these exam . For 2012 you will be appearing in all your usual exams like IIT-JEE , AIEEE and other exams. , Now from 2013 The Human Resource Development Ministry, Government of India is all set to go ahead with its plan to conduct a common engineering entrance examination from 2013, but the first nation-wide test may only cover technical institutions funded by the Centre.

IIT-JEE and AIEEE — for long the gateways to India’s top engineering colleges including the IITs and NITs— is all set to be replaced by a brand new test to be called as ISEET - Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test.
One thing that you can suggest that all the stream have good career opportunities if that field go according to your interest and abilities. I will suggest you to see your interest and then rank different engineering fields . It is good to keep options as if you don't get one option then you can move to other. You can read about different engineering option. It will increase your knowledge , make analysis of interest and ,and select the best career option....
