After doing graduation in physics at PG level you can specialise in any of these subjects- astrophysics, astronomy, nuclear physics, geophysics, applied geophysics, solid state physics, and space physics.
Astrophysics, a specialised subject, is one of the better options for higher studies. It is a branch of astronomy that deals with the physics of the universe, including the physical properties of astronomical objects, such as stars and galaxies.Astrophysics deals with the physical properties of celestial bodies and with the interaction between matter and radiation in the interior of celestial bodies and in interstellar space. It can be broken down into observational and theoretical astrophysics. After taking a Master's degree in the subject, do research leading to a Ph.D. to become an astrophysicist or scientist or research officer in the field of space research.

In Kerala, the School of Pure and Applied Physics of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, offers an M.Sc. physics course with astrophysics as a specialisation. Some universities offering M.Sc. Astrophysics/Astronomy courses are:
1.Osmania University, Hyderabad - 500 007 (M.Sc. Astrophysics and M.Sc.Astronomy),
2. Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University
Gautami Nagar, Vishnupuri, Nanded - 431 606 (M.Sc. Astrophysics) Integrated Ph.D.
3.The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore
( provides an integrated Ph.D.and research facilities leading to Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics. )
4.The Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore (Astronomy and Astrophysics);
5.Harish Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad (Astrophysics);
.6 The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune (Physics, Astronomy & Astrophysics);

I am agree with the advise of Harsha & your decision of taking Biotech, Chemistry And Zoology as your subjects for B.Sc after your excellent research!!!!

Looking the matter I wanted to add the following lines…..

Biotech Job Careers in India

Biotechnology is an integration of several science subjects. This discipline deals with producing substances and compounds that are essential for the well being of human and other living organisms. This interdisciplinary science encompasses not just biology, but also other subjects like chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering. This is a mostly a research oriented field.

The areas of biotech include healthcare, medicine, animal husbandry, environment & agriculture.

Entry and Eligibility for Admission into biotechnology courses is generally at the postgraduate level. Some of the undergraduate courses have been designed to help students who wish to make an early entry into the field of biotechnology. Science students having a background with chemistry, physics, biology and agriculture as subject-combinations can perform well in this field. A science background in the plus-two level is necessary for admission in the B Sc and B Tech Degree courses in biotechnology.
The job opportunities for postgraduates in biotechnology are increasing in India. Students can explore job options in Drug and pharmaceutical research ,Public funded laboratories, Chemicals ,Environment control ,Waste management ,Energy ,Food processing &Bio-processing industries. Hey Surabhi,

First of all I would like to congratulate you for your performance in your 12th class.

As you said that you have many choices in front of you after your 12th and you are flexible to choose any of then I want you to ask it to yourself first as to what you want to do and where do you want to see yourself after 10 years down the line.

Both the courses i.e. B.Sc Physics and B.Tech are very different that basic difference being that one is a professional course whereas the other is not.

If you have more interest in being an engineer then you should do a B.Tech as getting a job after that will not be an issue and you can immediately start your job once you complete your B.Tech.

For being a lecturer as you said you would like to do a B.Sc Physics. But this will not be a sufficient degree to become a lecturer in a college or university. You will have to do MSc and then PhD and then later on you will also have to qualify the NET or the SET exam for becoming the same. Without these qualifications you will not be able to become a professor.

So, first of all as I said you will have to see what your long term goals are, where your interests lie and what your aptitude are and then do it accordingly.

You can also go for the Psychometric Career Assessment that MeraCareerGuide.com offers. It will help you take better and informed decisions.

Best Wishes!
